Escape from Mordor
August 12th, 2006
Smeagol and I haven’t blogged much for the past several days, as we’ve been pouting over the demise of our Gallery page.
I installed Photo Album some time ago, and was very please with it, despite the fact that for some reason the plugin took away my “upload” function on the Write Post option. But I was willing to over look that little inconvenience, since I now had my photos linked from my blog. I thought the gallery was the funnest thing since my iPod.
Little did I know, it was to be but a brief, shining moment. For some reason, when I switched themes to the one I currently have, Photo Album turned up its boogery nose and refused to work. And I really, really like this theme, dammit.
Something had to be done - after that sweet taste, I simply couldn’t go back to a photo-less universe. After hours of dinking around, plumbing the depths of both theme and plugin, trying desperately to forge a successful union between the two…
…I gave up and tried a new plugin, FAlbum. This one seems simpler, yet as I was soon to find out, is virtually impossible to install and has the crappiest instructions I’ve ever seen in my entire two months of blogging.
It was time to seek professional help. That’s ok - I ain’t proud… Will Work For Blog Support. But alas, even my Blogfather, Wordpress devotee, could not figure out what the hell was going on.
The mountain belched fire…the eye burned…the wraiths circled. All appeared to be sourness and ruin.
But we wants it. We will have it, even if we have to bite off a finger to get it, my preciousss!
God bless the Flickr badge! Installation as easy as pie… Works perfectly in a widget text box… Tidy HTML option, or coolio Flash, which you see here at Uppity Rib. So it goes to Flickr instead of a page on my blog - so what. Small price to pay for getting to keep my photos on my home page, my “upload” function back, AND get to keep the theme I want.
We don’t need your unsupported, shit-for-documentation, lava-spewing plugins anyway, stupid fat hobbits!5 Responses to “Escape from Mordor”

Hey the Flickr badge looks great! And I don’t mind the link love at all!

Thanks, Blogfather! I was pretty happy with it myself.
And thanks for all the help getting started… You and the Blogmother may have created a monster.
I know, I am so fond of creating monsters. Go me!
And they have lava-spewing plugins? Gimme gimme! Let the pyrotechnics begin!
You are kickin’ some blog ass! Everything looks great! I have helped a few folks on the journey to blogdom, but I am most proud of you (Uppity) and my li’l sis (Lach)!

Adam, thank you SO much for the encouragement! As you can probably tell, I’m having a blast indulging my inner Gollum.
I literally had to tear myself away from the computer this weekend - “But there might be another widget I don’t know about!” LOL
