Have a holly Dalai Christmas

Only 19 shopping days left??

For holiday season enthusiasts, Christmas shopping is as giving birth is to mothers: We forget the pain…until the next time. Then we slap our foreheads and say “What was I thinking?”

I’m tear-assing madly around these days trying to get it all done, and not without a portion of holiday horror – I nearly perished last weekend in the crush of sweaty, pushy, noisy humanity during the Mervyn’s close-out sale.

And for what purpose? After all, if god had wanted us to shop at the mall, She wouldn’t have invented the internet.

Yet even in the midst of the consumer madness, one can bring one’s thoughts back to the enlightened message of the Buddha. Why can’t everyone be so easy to shop for?

  1. Very funny- I love it. I wonder if my kids would appreciate the humor. Your comparison to giving birth is right on. I think there’s a job opening writing for “Men’s Health”. Just don’t mention the iPods…
