Jo, what you say is 100% factually correct. Alas, “shiny magpie” just doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as well as “shiny crow.” Then again, it’s better than “shiny monkey.”

I had to *think* about the

It is not the crow, but the crow’s cousin the magpie that collects shiny objects for the nest. It may be that Uppity has more similarity to the magpie than the collection of bright shiny objects…….Kevin will know.

Crows, magpies, ravens, and jays are all of the same family, Corvidae, and are fascinating birds to study and even to get to know as individuals.
