Sunset over Salt Pond Beach on our last day in Kaua’i.
I’m spending my Saturday morning uploading the best trip photos to Flickr. I’m sure by the end I’ll be wondering why I ever came home. Oh yeah, my mortgage.
After reviewing the photos, I’ve decided one of the reasons I like Hawaii so much is the prevalence of bright colors in nature there. Red, purple, yellow and orange are everywhere, not just in planned gardens.
As opposed to the Pacific Northwest. PNW is beautiful, too, no doubt about it, but somewhat monochromatic, even in spring.
Did you know native PNW’ers have 50 words for “green”?

Woo-hoo, the Gods are smiling. I got to your blog!
I just got back from viewing your Kaua’i photos. AWESOME. BEAUTIFUL! I felt like I was right there with you guys. I went through it twice because I loved the photos. And you snapped photos during the ‘copter ride, too. You rock!
And who knew there were so many different kinds of flowers? The red, white and blue one in the center? Woofty.
And the long frond plant with the bumps? At first I thought it was an octopus–they have those kind of bumps on the underside of their tentacles. Fuh. Reaky. I’m glad you shared what they are for, otherwise I would have gone on thinking that it was some kind of man eating plant.
Oh, and the sunsets. The palms. The beach. That cool looking glass with the nose! I hope you guys asked for one…

Jo - We have as many words for rain as for green, they’re just not as nice: “sucky” “boring” “annoying” “depressing” …
Unhinged - Glad you enjoyed the photos. Aren’t the flowers the greatest? Every time I go to Hawaii I wonder seriously why everyone doesn’t move there…
I would like to know the 50 names if you have a list. Guess it’s similar to the Eskimos having so many words for snow.
