It’s about fucking time
June 20th, 2008
Summer begins officially today at 4:59 pm - and hold and belo, we might actually have sunshine here in Godforsaken, WA.
It’s a good thing, too, ‘cuz I was about to take the pills.
Normally the cloudy weather doesn’t get to me this much, but this spring I’ve been hating on Mother Nature something fierce. Doesn’t she know the basil in my garden needs sun? Those stumpy little starts are just sitting there, waiting for Her to get out of the shower so they can grow. Doesn’t my need for pesto mean anything to Her?
My gardens are actually rather spartan this year. Two tomato plants, two cucumbers, and a cantaloupe in the vegetable plot,1 and basil, parsley, and dill along with the perennials in the herb plot. Guess I just can’t see subjecting too many more innocent plants to Ms. Nature’s wet whims.
Of course, we could end up having a hot summer like the one we had a couple of years ago that had me shaking my fist at the blazing ball of fire in the sky that was making it impossible to sleep in my non-air conditioned, top floor bedroom.
But at least I’ll be eating lots of pesto along with my words.

- Why a cantaloupe? Because I’ve never grown one before. [↩]

I grew up in Indiana, a state where the skies are more gray than blue and yellow.
And you know what?
I miss the crappy days.
Sunny day after sunny day after sunny day is a like a LIE. A drag. If every day is sunny, how can I appreciate the bum days?
I LIKE bum days. They give me a legitimate excuse to burrow. To be a hermit.
You need to go lay in a tanning bed. I’m serious. Five minutes, tops.
We have sunshine. The only clouds around here are those little white, fluffy ones. No rain. Lots of sun and a sky that deep blue that you could fall into and never stop until you get to the Alpha Quadrant.
Stuff grows here. Just add water.
Cool at night. Warm to hot days. Bliss.
Who is “Jo” and why do they torment you so?
I’m sorry the weather has been affecting you so much this year. You KNOW I can relate. I’m doing surprisingly well this time around but it helps that I’ve been doing some traveling and seeing places with sunshine.
Maybe it’s time for another quick jaunt to Kauai??
Bwaaahh hah hah. Uppity nose that Uppity can always get sum sunshine rightchere anytime Uppity wants.
Amaya, Jo torments me because that is what family do, as well as extend open invitations to sunny states. I’m glad you’re doing better this year; I’m making Kevin get me a light box for my birthday.
