Snopacalypse? Keep Clam!

Seattle’s made the NYT for last week’s unprecedented storm. Between my cold and the snow, I’ve worked at home since last Monday. To ward off cabin fever, I’ve braved the drifts and taken a couple walks to Coulon Park. Now I have quads of steel and a few decent photos of the Clam Lights.1

No power outages anywhere yet, though we got out our “emergency kit” just in case. There’s more snow in tonight’s forecast, so this morning Kevin ventured onto the icy roads to go grocery shopping. We don’t want to die of malnutrition between now and the spring thaw. And I don’t want to start using clothes for Kleenex.

But the real concern is that we haven’t gotten any USPS mail since last Thursday. (Whatever happened to “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night…”? Sheesh!) And no UPS, either. This means it’ll be a lean Christmas morning, since of course both Kevin and I put off our online holiday shopping until the last minute.

Update: As I was typing this post, the UPS guy showed up at my door with one box. It’s addressed to Kevin, which means it contains a gift for me. Which means I’m the only one who’s going to look bad. I must stop Thursday from coming. But how?

  1. Nothing like feeling guilty on Xmas morning for being the only one with a gift. I suggest you rush to the nearest gas station and pick out a few necessities to wrap.
Did you see the episode of Friends where Joey and Chandler give everyone stuff from a rest stop because they didn’t have time to shop? Soda, toilet seat covers and windshield wipers were among the gifts. Very thoughful I should say.
    Hope you are feeling better.

  2. Yikes, hadn’t thought of that…Maybe he’ll get a stale fritter instead? By the way, Jo, Kevin is disappointed that we haven’t had to use the wind-up radio during the storm!

  3. He doesn’t have to wait for a storm! Send him out in the back yard. Lock the back door. Then he can check the weather report, ball scores, latest road conditions! Make him happy for the holidays!

  4. Hey, it worked! Kevin’s having a very merry Christmas out back in a tent listening to NPR. I brought him some water in his new canteen because I was feeling generous. :)

  5. Oh, wonderful! Happy holiday to everyone! It started snowing here at six ayem, after a night of rain. Life may get verrrrrry interesting out there today. We will be staying warm, looking out the windows at a frickin’ Xmas card.
